In Indie tier, you get 4 credits per month that can accumulate up to 8 total. Each credit lets you build one complete episode (guest discovery, research, and planning). Once you archive a completed episode, the slot opens up for a new one. In Pro tier, you get 20 credits per month (non-rolling) so you can work on many episodes simultaneously or plan months ahead.
Credits are like Audible credits - they accumulate if unused (up to the cap). Active episodes are the number of episodes you can work on at the same time before archiving. Indie: 4 credits/month (accumulate to 8), 4 active at once. Pro: 20 credits/month (don't roll over), 20 active at once.
